KATHMANDU: Based on a story by renowned Nepali storyteller Indra Bahadur Rai, Jaar is one of the most highly anticipated Nepali films.
With its official poster and release date now revealed, Jaar—directed by Phurba Chhiring Lama—will hit theaters on Baisakh 26, 2082 BS (May 8, 2025).
The film promises to take audiences on an engaging journey back in time through Nepal’s rich history and culture.

The film features lead actors Saugat Malla and Anup Bikram Shahi, alongside Geetanjali Thapa, whose presence adds further excitement. Geetanjali, a recipient of India’s National Film Award, brings international exposure to the project, while Saugat Malla brings depth to his role and Anup Bikram Shahi infuses energy and dynamism.

Jaar is based on a true incident from late 19th-century Nepali society, offering a poignant glimpse into human emotions and societal change during that period.
The film’s stunning visuals, shot entirely in the picturesque landscapes of Sikkim, promise to transport viewers back in time. Cinematography is by Saravanan Elavarasu.
