India starts clinical trial of Covaxin on children

The Czech Republic is rolling out the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccines.

As per a report in the Times of India (ToI), the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Patna has started clinical trials of the indigenously built Covaxin for children within the age group of 2 to 18 years on Wednesday.

According to ToI, registration for children to participate in the second phase of the clinical trial of the COVID-19 vaccine was opened last week. AIIMS started the process after the Drugs Controller General of India granted permission for the phase 2-3 clinical trial of the Covaxin on children.

AIIMS-Patna along with AIIMS-Delhi and Meditrina Institute of Medical Sciences in Nagpur has been selected for the clinical trials. The Times of India has quoted Dr CM Singh, Superintendent of AIIMS-Patna, as saying that the hospital will be targeting 70-80 children in the trial phase.
