Preparation of high level visit between Nepal and Korea

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and the Republic of Korea, preparations are being made for the visit of high officials. At a press briefing held in Kathmandu today, Park Tae-Young, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nepal, informed that preparations are being made for this kind of visit at a high level.

 Nepal and the Republic of Korea established diplomatic relations in 1974. Various programs are being organized on the occasion of 50 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Preparations are being made to organize such programs throughout the year.

The Republic of Korea opened an embassy in Nepal in 1974. Nepal opened an embassy in Korea in 2007. Park, the 19th Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nepal, made it clear that Nepal in in ranks fourth among the countries for Korean investment. The Korean Moter the Hyundai Assembly Plant will be inaugurated in Nawalparasi, Nepal after 2 days was also given in the press briefing. The plant is operated by Lakshmi Group.

Korea aims to increase investment in the hydropower sector in the future. Nepal is currently a priority partner of the Republic of Korea. After the agreement between Nepal and the Republic of Korea regarding Employment Permit System EPS in 2007, Korea is becoming a destination for Nepali workers. Since 2008, Nepalis have started going to Korea for work. By March 2024, 102,596 Nepalis have gone to Korea as workers. Currently, more than 44 thousand Nepalis are working in Korea.

Workers from 16 different countries are working in Korea. Out of which most of the workers have gone from Nepal. Nepalis have been working in fields like agriculture and production in Korea, now Nepali workers will be involved in the service and forestry sectors as well.

Those who returned to Nepal after working from Korea are also active in job creation.
