Strong earthquake in Noto, Japan: eight dead

At least eight people have been killed in a powerful earthquake off the west coast of Japan. A 7.6 magnitude earthquake was measured in the Noto region of Japan.

Kanazawa, Wajima and Toyama cities were most affected by the earthquake. Houses and buildings have been destroyed and roads and communication services have been disrupted. The BBC has mentioned that the details of the injured are not available as the rescue work is ongoing in the affected area.

Thousands of people spent the night in the open after the earthquake. The Japanese army provided food, water and clothing to those who left their homes.
