An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 struck off North Sulawesi province in central Indonesia on Tuesday morning, but did not trigger giant waves, the country's meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.

The weather agency earlier released the earthquake's magnitude of 6.3 before they revised it.

The quake occurred at 08:39 a.m. local time (0139 GMT) with its epicenter being at 40 km southeast of Kepulauan Talaud district and a depth of 109 km, it said.

The agency did not issue tsunami warning as the quake did not potentially trigger giant waves.
