Khairahani Municipality in Chitwan district has decided to provide free checkups and ambulance service to the expecting mothers living permanently in the municipality.
The pregnant women would get a certain type of blood test, video x-ray as well as ambulance service free of cost. The local level is going to provide such a facility under the 'Pregnant and postnatal care with Deputy-Mayor' programme.
Mayor Shashi Kumar Khaniya expressed the belief that the programme would be significant to reduce maternal and newborn mortality rate. Sharing that support and coordination of all stakeholders including employees was necessary for the success and continuity of the programme, Khaniya mentioned that this facility would be a milestone in health and security of new mothers.
Similarly, Deputy-Mayor Kabita Upreti said the municipality had launched the programme prioritising the health condition of pregnant women to ensure safe motherhood. The programme is implemented by incorporating it in the municipality's annual programme, she shared. -----
