Bajura facing harsh weather

2021 Nov 19, 13:35, Bajura

Bajura is facing colder days as the temperature drops and it is affecting people's life. It has become difficult for children and the elderly to get out of the house in the morning and evening.

Schools have also been affected due to the cold in the Himalayan region and students are seen standing around fire in the school yard. Hasta Bahadur Dhami, headmaster of Saraswati Basic School in Dhammakne, Badimalika Municipality-9, said that the students used to conduct their studies by lighting fire. According to him, more than 160 students are studying in the school. Out of them, 150 are the ones who cannot afford buying shoes and warm clothes.

Dhami adds that the students could not get regular education as the children were suffering from cold, fever, cracked hands and cheeks.

It started snowing in Bajura since the first week of November, and now it is getting cold. But since they have to commence examinations schools are still open despite the cold. "That is why the students are made to study by lighting a fire in the school grounds," says Pra Dhami.

Students with poor financial condition in school often come barefoot without even wearing proper clothes. They don't have hats or jackets to avoid the cold. The school has stated that teaching in cold weather is very difficult for them. Most of the tribal children come to study in the school and some have dropped out of school and gone to the valley with their parents to escape the cold.

Although the building will be constructed on the initiative of the ward, the students and teachers will face problems during the winter as the building does not stop cold, said the school principal.

Ram Bahadur Dhami, chairman of the school management committee said that the students need warm clothes like hats, socks, jackets and sweaters to avoid the cold. According to the Education Development and Coordination Unit, Bajura, out of 271 schools in Bajura, 100 are in the Himalayan region. According to the department some schools in the upper and lower parts of the district face problems during winter season.
