KATHMANDU: A cybercrime case has been filed against medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai. Prasai has been charged with violating the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063.
A demand has been made for 5 years in prison and a fine of 100,000 rupees against Prasai for the offense under Sub-section (1) of Section 47 of the Electronic Transactions Act-2063. The government attorney is also demanding additional punishment as cases have been filed against her twice for cybercrime before.
According to (2) of Section 47, there is a legal provision that those who repeatedly violate cyber laws will be punished for one and a half years. According to that provision, he has been sentenced to 7 and a half years in prison.
Now, Prasai will be heard in court on Thursday. After the hearing, the court will order whether to keep him in custody or to keep him out of custody for trial.
Even if the court orders him out of custody in this case, he will not be released immediately. The CIB is investigating another case against him after obtaining an arrest warrant from the court.
The CIB arrested him after he made controversial material public about Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's investments in Cambodia. He was arrested on Mangsir 4 on charges of cybercrime. He is also being investigated for money laundering and other matters.
