Hearing begins in the Constitutional Court

The Constitutional Court, which has been affected for more than five months, has been constituted and the hearing has started from today.

Acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki has constituted a constitutional bench and has also fixed the pace in six cases. The bench comprises Chief Justice Karki, Justices Meera Khadka, Harikrishna Karki, Vishwambhar Prasad Shrestha and Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada.

Article 137 of the Constitution of Nepal provides for the formation of a Constitutional Court. The bench will have four other judges appointed by the Chief Justice on the recommendation of the Judicial Council. Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra has been suspended after the ruling party filed a motion of impeachment against him in the parliament on March 20. Acting Chief Justice Karki has now constituted a bench to hear the case under consideration in the Constitutional Court.

According to the spokesperson of the Supreme Court, Bimal Poudel, no hearing has been held in the Constitutional Court since October 27. A bench has been constituted from today and the hearing has started. The hearing on the six-point case has already started in the Constitutional Court today. The constitutional session is held two days a week on Wednesday and Friday. The session has a constitutional provision to hear issues related to the constitution and disputes between the federal and state, state and state, state and local levels and local levels and disputes related to the election of members of the federal parliament or state assembly and disqualification of members of the federal parliament or state assembly.
