KATHMANDU: Nepal and China have signed nine agreements and memorandums of understanding (MOUs) during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s official visit to China.
The agreements were finalized following a meeting between Prime Minister Oli and Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Great Hall of the People on Tuesday morning, where officials from both countries exchanged the key documents.
Krishna Prasad Dhakal, Spokesperson and Joint Secretary of Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that in addition to the MOUs, several letters were also exchanged.
The signed documents include an agreement on the Tokha-Chhahare tunnel route, an MOU on Nepal-China trade, a reconstruction certificate for the nine-story Basantapur Durbar, a protocol for exporting thermally processed buffalo meat, an MOU on development planning, and agreements on economic and technical cooperation and cash grants.
Additionally, an MOU was signed on voluntary Chinese language education, and another on communications technology between Nepal Television and China Media Group, reinforcing their commitment to enhancing cooperation in these areas.
The bilateral discussions also focused on topics such as connectivity, infrastructure, industrial growth, medical collaboration, agriculture, trade, tourism, investment, science and technology, sports, disaster management, people-to-people exchanges, and poverty reduction. Dhakal noted that these agreements would play a significant role in strengthening Nepal-China relations.
