With the initiation of various immunization programs, Nepal is taking a positive step towards becoming an Asian leader in vaccinating its citizens. The prioritization given by the Government of Nepal and the United Nations to vaccines has resulted in the reduction of many vaccine-preventable diseases.

Nepal has launched a nationwide typhoid vaccine campaign that aims to cover all children between the ages of 15 months to 15 years to protect them from typhoid fever. Over 50,000 vaccination sites have been established across the country, which includes schools as well.
Recently on his April visit to Nepal, World Health Organization (WHO) chief Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus visited a primary school in Kathmandu where children below the age of 15 were getting vaccinated against typhoid. He acclaimed Nepal’s leadership and enthusiasm for vaccinating its population from a number of diseases. Nepal is the first country in the WHO South East-Asia Region (WHO SEARO) to launch the typhoid vaccination campaign, he tweeted before leaving Nepal.
