Five student unions have demanded an end to the culture of appointing Universities' office bearers on the basis of political sharing.

A delegation of the student unions today called on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at his official residence in Baluwatar and demanded the appointments through an open competition.

Competency, efficiency and expertise should be the criteria for the appointments to such posts, they said. The delegation has sought removal of BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences' Vice Chancellor who is alleged of corruption and irregularities.

Nepal Students Union general secretary Deepak Bhattarai said during the meeting the government was also urged to address the students' protest against misconducts at the Mid- Western University and to conduct the examinations.

Similarly, the students' unions demanded the Prime Minister bring out facts surrounding the missing of a youth in Darchula after falling from the broken tuine (a ropeway bridge).

NSU President Rajeev Dhungana, Akhil ( Revolutionary)'s President Ranjeet Tamang, All Nepal Free Students' Union (ANNFSU) President Sudesh Parajuli, Samajbadhi Students Union's President Rup Narayan Shrestha and Akhil (Sixth ) President Bimal Pokharel were in the delegation.
