Wild animals such as- boar, monkey, and porcupine have terrorized Baitadi. These wild animals have started destroying the crops planted by the farmers here. During the day, monkeys and at night, wild boar and porcupine have started destroying the fields.
Farmers have said that they have struggled to save maize crop in most parts of the district.
Ganesh Bista of Dogadakedar Gaonpalika-3 said that they were trying to save the maize crop after the monkeys started destroying it in the afternoon and wild boar at night. He said, "We have to stay awake to chase away wild animals. We get no sleep at night."
Farmers are worried after wild animals started destroying maize crop from the time of harvesting. Birendra Dhami, a local, said that they had to leave all their work to chase away the monkeys. The monkeys have destroyed maize, mango, pomegranate and other fruits.
He said, "As the terror of wild animals is increasing, the local level should take initiative to control it."
Hira Pandey, a local said that the farmers of Patan Municipality-5 were in trouble when the maize crop was destroyed. They have been forced to stay overnight in the maize fields during the rainy season to drive them away.
Farmers say that there will be many problems when the maize crop planted for evening meal is destroyed by the wild animals. The farmers have said that they have not been able to get compensation even though the crops have been damaged every year. The local government has not been able to come up with any plan to protect the crops.
Farmer Bir Bahadur said that the local governments have not been able to solve the problems of the farmers. According to the Division Forest Office, Baitadi, wild animals have been entering the fields due to lack of food.
