36 persons held for illegally operating call centre

A total of 36 persons including foreigners have been held in the Capital City for illegally operating a call centre. The alleged were arrested from Sky World Services Centre at Tinkune in Kathmandu on Monday.

Spokesperson of Nepal Police Tek Bahadur Rai said the arrestees are one Chinese national, two Indians and 33 Nepalis.

Rai said the arrested ones were nabbed for carrying out unlawful activities online including issuing threats, hacking, tapping personal and confidential information and seeking money, among others.

Police also recovered Rs 829,000 in cash, 748 desktop computers and other devices.

After the raid, police recovered electronic devices from the arrested ones. Earlier on Sunday, police arrested a large number of people from Rupandehi for their involvement in running a similar call centre.
