The 78th Memorial Day of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki of Japan by the United States has been observed here in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Attending the programme organised here on Saturday by the Afro-Asian Peoples’ Solidarity Organisation of Nepal (AAPSO Nepal), Rastriya Swatantra Party Vice Chair and former minister Dol Prasad Aryal said now the world did not need war anymore.

He stressed the need for advancing a war of ideology instead. “We the people from the birthplace of Buddha should spread a message of peace,” he said.

Nepal should learn from foreign countries which have been fast pursuing development, he said while viewing that mutual relations between Nepal and Japan should continue.

Similarly, Prof Dr Motilal Sharma Bhusal of the Tribhuvan University Central Department of Chemistry stated the current competition among many countries in manufacturing nuclear weapons would only destroy the world. The current war between Russia and Ukraine has been creating many problems in the world, he said.

AAPSO Nepal co-chair Prof Dr Pradip Kumar Khadka said weapons and atom bombs have been posing challenges to the human civilisation.

AAPSO Nepal vice chair Prof Dr Shreedhar Gautam, and general secretaries Pro Dr Gopal Pokharel ‘Bibash’ and Dr Sabita Shrestha dubbed the Day of the atomic bombing as a black day in human civilisation. Established in 1958 with shared efforts of Asian and African countries, the AAPSO has been voicing against neocolonialism, imperialism and expansionism. The organisation has been expanded over 80 countries across the globe. ---
