The Bharatpur Metropolitan City has stepped up efforts to conserve the Narayani river by constructing embankments.

Embankments would be constructed along around 640 metres of the river banks in the north of the river bridge as part of this initiative.

The metropolis mayor Renu Dahal and deputy mayor Chitrasen Adhikari jointly laid the foundation stone for the project and a place where rituals occur amid a function here today.

Under the river conservation, work will be carried out in five phases, said mayor Dahal. "Work on 640 metres of river banks across the bridge has started. A construction agreement for four other sections has been already reached," she said, adding that this would also help in the development of this tourist area.

Similarly, deputy mayor Adhikari said the metropolis has prioritised the development of the area as a religious tourist destination.

Initiated by the Narayani River Management Project (NRMP), the project of constructing embankments cost over Rs 159 million. Dynamic Construction Private Limited has started construction after winning the contract, said the NRMP Director Ganesh Marasini. The completion deadline for the project is 18 months.

Similarly, the Urban and Building Construction Project has commissioned the project to construct a place where rituals take place at the cost of over Rs 17 million. Under the project that has already started, a 28 metres long and 5 metres wide place will be constructed, said the project chief Prakash Aryal.
