BP highway operation: 14 policemen injured

The BP highway, which had been blocked since this morning, has resumed operations. Relatives and locals had blocked the highway over the death of 39-year-old Vijay Muktan.

Vijay, a resident of Kamalamai Municipality-2, was hit by a Bolero (Province 3-01-036 Pa 1419) in Nibuwatar on Tuesday. The injured died while being brought to Sindhuli Hospital, said Superintendent of Police, District Police Office, Sindhuli, Vimal Raj Kadel.

He said that the locals attacked the police team that went to the highway was blocked at Kamalamai Municipality-2, Peepalbhanjyang.

Fourteen policemen have been injured in the attack. He informed that one of the injured has been shifted to Kathmandu Police Hospital and 11 have returned home after treatment while two others are undergoing treatment at Sindhuli Hospital.

Senior police constable Vijay Kumar Yadav, police constable Josna Shrestha, Leela Khatri, Karna Bahadur Mugrati, Ghanshyam Chaudhary, Ramesh Lama and Gopal Tharu were injured in the attack.

Similarly, police constables Bhola Raut, Nizamudi Mih, police constables Vimala Shrestha, Sanjit Shrestha, Bhupendra Rawat, Ram Narayan Raut and Ishwar Kumar Bastola were also injured. Among the injured, Josna Shrestha has been shifted to Kathmandu Police Hospital for treatment and 10 others have been discharged, said Superintendent of Police Kadel.

He said that Bhupendra Rawat, Ram Narayan Raut and Ishwar Kumar Bastola were undergoing treatment at the hospital and their condition was normal. The injured have been injuries on the head, shoulder and leg by a glass bottle. Police fired in the air in self-defense. No casualties were reported.
