Bribing and influencing tendency will be ended: Deputy PM Shrestha

Newly appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Narayan kaji Shrestha asserted that his major objective in his new role was to making strides in terms of prosperity by ensuring good-governance.

Talking to media persons upon assuming office at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport in Singha Durbar on Monday, DPM Shrestha pledged to give continuity to all good works undertaken by erstwhile leadership in the Ministry and reaffirmed his commitment to move ahead addressing the issues arising during the implementation of those works.

Stating that effective and stern control of corruption and irregularities was his foremost responsibility, DPM Shrestha vowed to end bribery and influencing on the works that ought to be carried out in line with the country's constitution, law and regulations.

He warned, "Gone are the days for those intending to capture the Ministry on the strength of monetary power."

"We brought political changes; we must bring about positive changes in the lives of people by making political rights a medium. Public should be able to experience changes in their lives," he argued.

According to him, the government should emphasize on the need to provide health, education, employment, residence, food, drinking water and electricity for the public that bring about positive changes in their lives.

The DPM said that since his ministry would have decisive role in ensuring qualitative development of socio-economic structures in Nepal, he would move forward in that direction.

Stressing on reforms at policy-level for effective public service delivery, Shrestha asked the staffers at his ministry not indulge in appeasing, and encouraged that s/he who delivers the best shall be rewarded.

Furthermore, Shrestha pledged to promote good-governance by defending national sovereignty thereby moving forward in the journey of national prosperity.

On the first day of his job, the DPM signed in the decision paper to facilitate registration of the domestically manufactured vehicles and formation of a taskforce for management of public vehicles.

DPM Shrestha was welcomed in the Ministry by its secretary Gopal Prasad Sigdel and Ministry's other high-ranking officials.
