Nepali Congress has won in Phungling, the only municipality of Taplejung. In today's counting of votes, Congress candidate Amir Maden got 6,179 votes.
According to the District Election Office, Taplejung, Maden defeated his nearest rival CPN-UML's Chhatrapati Pyakurel by 2,287 votes. Pyakurel polled 3,892 votes.
Similarly, CPN-UML candidate Bhimadevi Ojha was elected as the Deputy Chief with 4,277 votes, according to the Office of the Chief Election Officer, Taplejung. Ojha defeated Bam Bahadur Bhattarai of the rival Maoist Center by 433 votes. Bhattarai polled 3,844 votes.
