A constitutional bench has been formed based on seniority to hear the writs filed against the Nepali Citizenship (First Amendment) ordinance at the Supreme Court.

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari had issued the ordinance to amend the Nepal Citizenship Act as per Article 114 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers on May 23.

The constitutional bench will be headed by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana. The other members of the bench are Justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Meera Khadka, Hari Krishna Karki, and Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada.

As per seniority, Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha should have been included in the constitutional bench but since Justice Shrestha is on home isolation, Justice Khatiwada who is next in seniority has been included in the constitutional bench.
