A couple riding on a bicycle died after a truck hit them along the East-West Highway in Saptari district this morning.

The deceased have been identified as Satya Narayan Mandal (45) and his wife Sunita Devi Mandal (40) of Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality-3 in the district, according to Police.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madhav Prasad Kafle at Saptari District Police Office said that the accident took place when a truck (Na 6 Kha 3861) heading in an eastward direction hit the cycle critically injuring the couple who were riding along the East-West Highway, on Tuesday morning.

The critically injured duo breathed their last on the way to a hospital in Bhardaha, DSP Kafle said.

Meanwhile, police have impounded the vehicle and detained the driver for further investigation into the incident.
