KATHMANDU: The government has made the decision to cremate Damannath Dhungana, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, with state honors. In light of his passing, today has also been declared a public holiday.
During a Council of Ministers meeting on Monday morning at Baluwatar, the official residence of the Prime Minister, heartfelt condolences were expressed for Dhungana’s death, along with emotional tributes.
Prithvisubba Gurung, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Government Spokesperson, announced the decision to provide Dhungana with a state funeral and to declare a nationwide public holiday.
Dhungana, who had been suffering from liver issues, passed away on Sunday afternoon at the age of 83 at Frontline Hospital in Mid Baneswor.
