Darchula incident: Probe team inspects incident site

The probe committee formed by the government to investigate into the disappearance of Jaysingh Dhami in the Mahakali River has inspected the incident site in Indian side after seven days. The probe team reached the incident site along with the security officials from Nepal and India.

The probe team led by Joint Secretary at Home Ministry, Janardan Gautam, conducted an onsite visit of Malghat at Byas Rural Municipality. It reached there via Darchula and then India's Dharchula.

The probe team members observed the tree where the tuin (wire bridge) was fastened. It observed based on the details provided by the monitoring team mobilized earlier from the district, according to Assistant Chief District Officer, Jyotshna Bhatta Joshi.

There is a wooden pole in Nepal side while a tree in Indian side to fasten the wire for crossing the Mahakali River. However, there is no wire in any side now.

It is difficult to trace whether the wire is snapped or removed from the tree, the officials said. The river is some 45 meter wide.

Joshi further said the probe team reached the very incident site and returned from there. "SSB of India facilitated only for the inspection. No other issues except this are discussed," she added.

Battalion Chief of Battalion No 22 of the Armed Police Force in Darchula, Narendra Bam, and Chief of District Police Office in Darchula, Manohar Prasad Bhatta, had also accompanied the investigation team.

Commandant of Indian SSB, Mahendra Pratap Singh, was also together with the team while inspecting the incident site.

Now, the investigation team is planning to inspect the incident site from Nepali side and meet the victim family. As it is difficult to reach there on foot, the team is going there by a helicopter.
