Deputy mayor of Siraha's Lahan municipality, Ramchalitar Mahato, who was accused of attempted rape, has surrendered to the police.
He appeared at the local police office on Friday himself.
A woman filed a complaint to the police on July 4, alleging that Deputy Mayor Mahato called her to the office and tried to rape her. Mahato was unreachable after the complaint was filed.
According to spokesman and Police Inspector Ramchandra Shah, Deputy Mayor Mahato appeared at the local police office after which he was taken into custody. Further investigations have begun.
