The Hupsekat Rural Municipality in Nawalparasi district has introduced a programme whereby families will be provided Rs 5,000 on the birth of a girl child. The programme will be implemented from the beginning of the next fiscal year 2078/79.
At present, the rural municipality is being led by women representatives. The Chairperson of the rural municipality is Laxmi Pandey while the deputy vice-chairperson is Kopila Malla.
Pandey informed that based on the birth certificate when a girl child is born into any family the rural municipality will open a bank account and deposit Rs 5,000 immediately. She also stated that the rural municipality expects 120 girls to be born in the next fiscal year and has allocated a budget of Rs 6 lakh for the purpose.
The rural municipality had introduced a programme in the last fiscal year whereby pregnant women were provided a sum of Rs 5,000, which will be continued in the next fiscal year too. Moreover, farmers will also get five rupees on the sale of each litre of milk.
