The coalition candidate Jhalnath Khanal has been defeated as a member of the assembly from Ilam1 representative. He was defeated by Mahesh Basnet, president of NE KPA UML Eelam district committee with 2957 votes. Basnet used to be the head of the city earlier. Defeated, Khanal has become the Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN-UML. After the party split, he went to CPN United Samajwadi.
