Free visa and ticket to work in Malaysia

According to the Nepali embassy in Kuala Lumpur, the people going to work in Malaysia do not have to pay money to go there. The Nepali Embassy informed about an arrangement to provide free visas and tickets for the workers. Ramchandra Giri, Assistant Liaison Officer of the Embassy, gave this information during the Facebook Live program held on Friday.

In such a situation, any manpower agency asking for money can go to the Foreign Employment Board or the Nepal Police and file a complaint, he said.

Workers have complained that manpower companies are demanding up to 3 lakh rupees to go work in Malaysia.

Although the minimum monthly salary of workers in Malaysia is fixed at 1500 ringgit, most companies still do not pay the basic salary. The Nepali workers receiving low wages have submitted an application to the Nepali embassy. The embassy, in response, has made it clear that they can talk to the relevant company based on that.

Some companies are caught writing basic salary as 1500 and allowance as 300 on the salary sheet but the workers are made to work 12 hours a day for 30 days. This is especially seen in security companies. The companies with complaints are being called to the Nepali embassy and the issue is being discussed. The embassy has further written a letter to security companies to rectify the matter as soon as possible.

The government of Malaysia had arranged an 18-month period until June 30 for workers who were illegally in Malaysia to return home after paying a fine of 500 ringgit. It has been said that illegal workers can go to immigration to return home and pay fines as well as prison terms. Illegal residents will not get a new visa.

Currently, citing the lack of workers in Malaysia, some companies have provided special passes for workers even after their visas have expired. Even in the case of resigning from the company, it is stated that they can contact the embassy and get the necessary assistance without sending them home.

Workers wanting to return home when the term of the contract is over have to pay the levy company for the remaining months.

Some manpower companies have been blacklisted for not following rules made by the government of Nepal and Malaysia and on the basis of many complaints from people.
