Garbage piled up on the roads in Birtamod Municipality has been picked up. Agni Pandey, spokesperson of the municipality, said that the management has been started by deciding on a temporary place for dumping garbage immediately after pressure came from all quarters.

"We are looking for a place to manage long-term garbage," he said.

The people's representative was criticized for not being able to manage the landfill site even in four years after the stench started spreading in Birtamod. Spokesperson Pandey said that he was relieved after the mayor provided land for resolving the emergency problem. Rabin Bhattarai, field manager of Nirakar Sanitation Services Pvt.

He said that even though he was in charge of garbage management for three years, there was a problem in working as the municipality did not provide landfill site. The municipality has formed a garbage disposal site study and selection committee under the coordination of Ward Chairman Kul Prasad Sangraula of Birtamod Ward No. 4 to manage the landfill site from the all-party meeting.

Spokesperson Pandey informed that a long-term land field site has been set up within 15 days as the committee is searching for the land. The contractor company had earlier been digging garbage pits around the East-West Highway, behind Domalal Rangalasha and on the banks of Deuniya river. Garbage had been piled up on the side of the road for the past two weeks due to incessant rains.
