The general deliberations on the annual estimate of revenue and expenditure for the fiscal year 2023/24 in the National Assembly (NA) have concluded today.

Deliberations on the same were held on June 7, 8 and 9 in the Upper House of the Federal Parliament. Minister for Finance Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat is scheduled to respond to the queries raised by the parliamentarians on the upcoming budget in the next meeting of the NA today.

Minister Mahat on May 29 had presented budget worth Rs 1.75 trillion in the joint session of the Federal Parliament while he had presented the proposal seeking general deliberations on the same in the NA on June 7.

Meanwhile, parliamentarians in the general deliberations today viewed that the upcoming budget was very ambitious and therefore, there were challenges in its implementation.

As the government pledged to implement the upcoming budget since mid-July and carry out monitoring of the implementation, they demanded with the government to shed light on what procedure or method it would use for its implementation.

Parliamentarian Jayanti Rai stated the upcoming budget included new issues, progressive programmes and development plans and thus drew the attention of the government to implement them as it is.

Krishna Prasad Poudel opined that the budget had won the confidence of the public and thus pressed for its effective implementation. He wished that the general citizens should get benefitted through its effective implementation.

Jitendra Narayan Dev said that the budget was balanced, practical and was oriented in national interest in the context of Nepal's economic condition.

Similarly, Devendra Dahal argued that there was no point in holding deliberation on the budget if there was no condition to address the issues raised by parliamentarians.

Likewise, Hariram Chaudhary commented that the budget failed to pay attention to the issuing surrounding the rescue of Nepali migrant workers stranded abroad and Nepali migrant workers dying abroad.
