Govt. manage community rural electrification campaign: Minister Basnet

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Shakti Bahadur Basnet on Saturday said the government was ready to further manage the community rural electrification campaign. The method of making people a part of the development campaign would be expanded, he said at an event here organised on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the electrification campaign.

“The government will support the community rural electrification campaign. The constitution has promoted the concept of the development with citizen participation and the public-private partnership. We take electric cooperatives as a part of the state. People’s participation and ownership,and sharing in returns should be ensured.” He praised the community electrification for its delivery as he said it is an important part of cooperative.

Similarly,Bagmati Province Assembly member Madhusudan Paudel stressed the need for resolving problems created due to the frequent change of the line minister. There is a need to facilitate the community electrification being run through cooperatives by making a provision in the regulations, he viewed.

Head of the district coordination committee Rishidev Phuyal said the coordination committee was ready to help, coordinate and facilitate in the community electrification.

The National Association of Community Electricity Users-Nepal, General Secretary, Gobinda Paudel underscored the need for working on electrification by bringing the people onboard the campaign.
