The Howrah Municipal Corporation, Howrah, Kolkata in India has named a local road after Adikabi Bhanubhakta Acharya, the pioneer poet of Nepal.
The half-kilometre road from St Thomas High School, Chapala Devi Road to Narsingh Datto Road via Manasatala has been named as 'Bhanubhakta Sarini'. Before this, the road was called W Road.
The road has been named after Nepali Adikabi at the initiatives of Agriculture Minister of West Bengal, Arup Roy.
Nepali Janakalyan Samiti, Dasnagar, Howrah has been celebrating Bhanubhakta Jayanti, the birth anniversary of the Adikabi, since around 25 years back. It had been calling for naming the road after Adikabi Bhanubhakta Acharya for eight years.
Samiti president Badri Bikram Thapa said the Samiti marked the 210th Bhanu Jayanti this year. Nepal Academy Chancellor Bhupal Rai was the Chief Guest at the programme. Thapa thanked the West Bengal government and the municipal corporation for naming the road after Bhanubhakta. According to Thapa, who is also the President of the United Nepali Central Service Association, the Bhanubhakta Road will be inaugurated at appropriate time. ---
