Ilam Municipality has established an eye hospital. The municipality has constructed the hospital by issuing a separate procedure using the authority given by the Local Government Operation Act.
The community eye hospital established in the district is said to be the first hospital in the country to be run locally. The municipality had raised Rs. 5 million for the construction of the hospital in the previous fiscal year. In the current Fiscal Year, Rs. 10 million has been allocated. Out of the allocated amount, Rs. 5.79 million has been spent. Out of this, Rs. 5.324 million has been spent on capital and Rs. 465,000 on operations.
Non-surgical services are now available at the hospital. General eye opioids, general treatment, general surgery, spectacle prescription, and other services will be provided. As there was no eye hospital in the district, even ordinary eye patients had to go outside the district for services. The hospital has a seventh-level ophthalmologist, a fifth-level ophthalmologist, a pharmacist, and a spectacles technician. After the operation of this eye hospital, the residents of the rural areas of the district will feel more comfortable.
City Deputy Chief Sushila Nemwang informed that the service of the eye hospital has been started. According to him, after the operation of this hospital, the residents of this local level and other local levels of the district will also be able to get services, said Mayor Mahesh Basnet.
