Information Minister pledges to internet connectivity in community hospitals, schools

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has made his commitment to ensure internet service in the community schools and hospitals across the country.

Responding to the lawmakers’ concerns in today’s meeting of the National Assembly on the appropriation bill, Minister Karki said the community schools and hospitals would be given minimum of 50 per cent in subsidy.

He shared the government’s plan to provide tele-medicine services for providing quality health care services in the remote areas. Furthermore, he said distance learning programme would be implemented in at least 100 schools in the upcoming fiscal year as per the government target to give equal education to all.

Stating that digital literacy campaign would be advanced in the country, Minister Karki said programmes on cyber security would also be initiated in the upcoming fiscal year adding that drafting of the cyber security policy is being prepared.

According to Minister Karki, 4G service is already expanded in 735 local levels out of 753 local levels in the country till this fiscal year and a total of 1,594 kms of optical of fibre is expanded while 643 mobile towers are constructed.

Saying that stress has been laid for the implementation of Digital Nepal Framework to enforce the concept of Digital Nepal, Minister Karki shared that a separate project would be brought to expedite Digital Nepal Framework.

The government is also implementing the integrated office management system in the federal-level entities to implement the plan of paperless government.

Considering the development and expansion of mass communication, he said establishment and operation of the Krishna Prasad Bhattarai Mass Communications Training Academy is forwarded.
