The Jhulaghat transit in Baitadi district bordering India has come into full operation from today. The border crossing was partially operational as the suspension bridge over the Mahakali river at Jhulaghat was under construction.

Following the completion of the bridge, the transit has been fully operated, said Chief District Officer Suresh Panthi. For repair of the suspension bridge, people's mobility was halted from 8:45 am to 1:15 pm and from 2:15 pm to 4:15 pm. Now, the border is operational from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm.

The full operation of the transit has facilitated home returnees for festivals including Dashain, it has been said. Now, people returning home to celebrate Dashain have been freed from problems caused by the partial operation of the border, said the border police post, Jhulaghat.

With the full operation of the crossing, it has become easier for the Indian pilgrims visiting shrines in Baitadi for worship during Dashain. Indian pilgrims come to visit temples including Ningalashaini, Tripurasundari, Melauli and Udayadev for worship during Dashain.

Nepali and Indian sides in the border coordination meeting agreed to repair the dilapidated suspension bridge. Meanwhile, facing difficulties to cross the river without a concrete bridge, the local people have demanded the construction of a concrete bridge.
