Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started removing algae from Ranipokhari in a bid to make it clean and more beautiful.
It started removing algae from Monday to maintain the beauty of the historical Ranipokhari as algae started covering the pond there. The cleaning is being done with the support of 20 municipal police personnel daily, said KMC Municipal Police Chief, Dhanapati Sapkota.
He added, "National Reconstruction Authority has not handed over the Ranipokhari to KMC after its reconstruction. However, we started removing the algae as the heritage site is under our jurisdiction."
Discussion is underway regarding the issue of filling the water in Ranipokari as the problem has surfaced due to decreasing water level, shared Sapkota.
After the reconstruction, 32.2 million liters of water were filled in Ranipokhari and there is now only around 20 million liters of water.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari had inaugurated the Ranipokhari on October 21, 2020, after its reconstruction. Ranipokhari was damaged by the Gorkha earthquake. National Reconstruction Authority had completed the reconstruction of Ranipokhari in its own previous style after five years.
