Light to moderate rainfall predicted

The weather will be partly to generally cloudy throughout the country today with the possibility of light to moderate rainfall in many places due to the influence of the monsoon wind, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said.

The Department said there is the possibility of heavy rain at one or two places in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces in the next 24 hours. It has cautioned against landslides, mudslides, soil erosion and a rise in water level in rivers and seasonal streams in the hilly region.

The Department has urged one and all to adopt alert as the rain will likely affect the daily life and the transport sector as well in these areas.

The weather will be partly to generally cloudy with chances of light to moderate rainfall at some places of the hilly region and at a few places in the rest of the country tonight. Heavy rain is predicted at one or two places in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

As per the latest weather information shared by the Department, the minimum temperature in Kathmandu Valley was 21.0 degrees Celsius while the maximum was 28.8 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours.

Similarly, the lowest minimum temperature of 15.5 degrees Celsius throughout the country was recorded in Jumla while the highest maximum temperature of 34.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Janakpur in the last 24 hours, the Department stated.

Light to moderate rainfall is predicted to continue in most parts of the country as the pre-monsoon has become active, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The low-pressure line in Uttar Pradesh and surrounding areas of Bihar, India and the impact of the westerly winds have caused it, according to meteorologist Raju Pradhananga.

There will be partly general weather change and some parts may witness rainfall while one or two areas in the hilly region may have thundershowers followed by a storm, he said. “The impact of the weather system will weaken when the monsoon enters Nepal.” The monsoon is expected from June 13.

Light to moderate rain is predicted in some areas of Province 1, Madhes Province, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province with a part to the general change in the weather and one; or two hilly areas of the remaining provinces are likely to receive thundershowers coupled with a storm, according to the Department.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division further said the Kathmandu Valley recorded a minimum 18.6-degree temperature and a maximum of 26.6 degrees.

Likewise, Jumla reported the lowest minimum of 11.7 degrees and Dipayal’s highest maximum of 38.9 degrees across the county.
