Minister Karki felicitated various personalities

Minister for Communications, Information and Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki underscored the need for creative journalism for ensuring good governance and sustainable development.

At a programme organized by the Janaaakash Weekly paper on the occasion of its 15th anniversary today, Minister Karki urged the mass media for factual and credible journalism. Karki, also the Spokesperson of the government, viewed that mass media had an important role in building a 'prosperous Nepal'.

Extending his best wishes to the weekly paper on its anniversary, he asserted, "Democracy is strengthened by healthy competition. I firmly believe in it and I hope you also feel likewise."

Similarly, Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Kathmandu Chief Surya Subedi drew the attention of the government towards issues facing the mass media as well as media persons.

FNJ central committee member Shantaram Bidari lauded Minister Karki for addressing the demands raised by the journalists for implementation of the Senior Journalist Allowance Fund for Senior Journalists.

On the occasion, artists Subash Gajurel and Uttam KC Nepal were feted. Likewise, government auditor Sunil Basnet was honoured with 'Rastriya Janasewa Samman-2079 BS', writer Tilak Prasad Luintel with 'Janaakasha Senior Translator and Researcher Award-2079 BS' and executive director of Manaslu College with 'Janaaakash Shikshya Samman-2079BS'.

Similarly, Everest Bank Limited's chief executive officer Sudesh Khaling was honoured with 'Janaaakash Banking Award-2079 BS' and poet and litterateur Binod Nepal with 'Kabi yebam Sahityakar Samman-2079 BS'.
