Myanmar Ambassador to Nepal pays obeisance in Swayambhunath Stupa

KATHMANDU: Ambassador of Myanmar to Nepal U Myo Myint Maung visited the Swayambhunath Stupa in Kathmandu on Friday morning and offered prayers there.

The Myanmar envoy accompanied by Royal Priest of Myanmar Chicago Sayadaw reached the hillock of the Buddhist Stupa situated in the northwest of Kathmandu Valley and ritually offered worships.

The Swayambhu Management and Conservation Mahasamiti welcomed the visiting dignitaries and honoured them. They were provided with publications of the Mahasamti.

On the occasion, Mahasamiti's Chairperson Maha Sthabir Bikhshu Dharmamurti briefed the visiting dignitaries about the religious activities and historical aspects relating to the shrine believed to date back to 460 AD.

The Mahasamiti, Dharmamurti informed, has been playing an important role to promote Buddhist literature and philosophies in the international arena.

Mahasamiti's Secretary Chandraratna Buddhacharya added that the Buddhists followers of all sects including Hinayana and Mahayana expressed their faith in the shrine which also has many Hindu temples within its premises.

Such visits would help spread positive message at the international level thereby increasing religious tourists, he viewed.

Likewise, highlighting the importance of the Buddhist teachings for world peace and humanitarian welfare, venerable monk Rajguru Sayado pledged to further promote Buddhist literature and philosophies.
