Nepal records another highest daily cases, deaths on Monday

9,127 new cases take tally to 403,794; 139 deaths reported

Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Monday reported 9,127 new cases of coronavirus infection, the highest daily record. With this, the COVID count has reached 403,794. Additionally, 144 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the Health Ministry has also recorded 139 deaths from COVID-19 including the data from COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC) and Nepali Army's dead body management statistics in the past 24 hours. This is the highest number of deaths reported till now. Earlier, 88 deaths were reported on Sunday. As of Monday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 3,859. Presently, there are 93,141 active cases in Nepal.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 3,607 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu registered 2,775 cases, Lalitpur 505 cases and Bhaktapur registered 327 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 4,007 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Monday, a total of 306,794 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 76 per cent.

Earlier, the MoHP on Sunday had reported 8,777 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 394,667.

As of Monday, a total of 2,652,130 persons have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 93,141 persons staying in isolation while 427 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

More than 158.39 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 3,433,774 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December, a Reuters tally showed as of 4:54 pm, on Monday, May 10, 2021.

The World Health Organisation referred to it as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
