Nepal to celebrate sustainable mountain development in 2022

The government has decided to celebrate 2022 as the year of sustainable mountain development. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba will inaugurate the Sustainable Mountain Development Year by inaugurating a policy regional debate program for sustainable solution of mountain problems to be organized in the context of International Sustainable Mountain Development Year, 2022.

As per the decision of the United Nations to celebrate the year 2022 as the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development, the Government of Nepal, Ministry of Forests and Environment is going to hold a debate program in Kathmandu for two days from today.

The United Nations has called on all stakeholders, including governments, international organizations and non-governmental organizations, to organize various programs throughout the year to promote the importance of mountain ecosystems. About 86 per cent of Nepal's land area is covered by Chure, Mahabharata, highland and mountainous areas. Scientific studies have confirmed that the effects of climate change are relatively greater in mountainous and mountainous areas.

In the technical session of the regional debate program, working papers will be presented and discussed in five genres related to mountain environment. It has five genres: Mountain Economy, Mountain Biodiversity and Ecosystem, Mountain Culture, Mountain Women and Mountain-Plans.

After the conclusion of the technical sessions, the issues that need to be raised by Nepal in the national policy and international forums will be prepared and presented in point form. In order to celebrate the Sustainable Mountain Year, the Ministry of Forests has stated that it intends to organize interactions with policy makers by 2022, mountain conference in Mustang, suggestion gathering seminar for 27th conference on climate change and International Mountain Day program.

The celebration of International Mountain Year will have the cooperation and coordination of UN missions in Nepal, United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, International Integrated Mountain Development Center, World Wildlife Fund, International Conservation Union, development partners, NGOs and others.
