The government has decided to provide free treatment of patients infected with the coronavirus only at government hospitals and health facilities. It has removed the names of the private hospitals and health facilities from the list of institutions providing free treatment to COVID-19 patients.
The
Ministry of Health and Population has issued a notice stating that private health institutions with which the government had an agreement will be refunded for the treatment of patients that were admitted till Monday (June 8) for a period of 10 days.
Meanwhile, the ministry has urged all private health institutions not to charge more than the government-set rate for the treatment of patients infected with the coronavirus.
The government had previously signed an agreement with some private hospitals and health facilities to provide free treatment to COVID-19 patients. As per the agreement, the government had been providing Rs 3,500 for each normal patient and Rs 7,000 for patients being treated on oxygen on a daily basis. Similarly, for very serious patients being treated with other medical equipment it had been providing Rs 15,000 daily for each patient.
