The Room to Read, a non-government organization, working in the field of education has come up with the concept of ‘phone school’ in order to help continue teaching and learning activities during the current pandemic.

This has been used as one of the alternative method of teaching and learning, as schools remain shut in the wake of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

The new method has begun with an orientation for Nepali teachers. A total of 61 Nepali subject teachers of 33 schools in the district were trained to provide classes with the help of mobile phones. “We are very happy to reconnect with our students with the help of the phone school concept, and the students are encouraged as well,” said GeetaAcharya of the BhanuSankrit Secondary School.

This new concept was introduced in order to minimize the damage to learning activities as a result of the prohibitory order imposed, leading to closure of schools, said programme officer at Room to Read LB Khadka. Earlier, the NGO had introduced radio school, online library and guardian’s education through telephone.
