Photojournalists submit memo to Prime Minister

The National Forum of Photojournalists (NFPJ), Nepal submitted a memorandum of its demands to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' today. The team led by the president of the group, Pradeep Raj Onta, reached the Prime Minister's residence Baluwatar today and submitted the seven-point memorandum.

In the memo the NFPJ has requested for necessary support from the government for the ensuring the rights and interests of photojournalists working for various media houses in Nepal. Also, a request has been made to the Prime Minister to provide land and building for a photo museum.

Similarly, demand was put forth for insurance protection all journalists who earn their living through photojournalism and including the category of photojournalists in the national award given by the government every year.

Call was also made for training to photojournalists to make them professional, an annual budget and loans at concessional rates to buy necessary tools including camera for photojournalists.

In response, Prime Minister Prachanda expressed his commitment to do his best to fulfill the legitimate demands of the photojournalists, said Onta, the president of the group.
