Sama Chakewa festival observed as a symbol of love between brothers and sisters has started today in Mithilanchal. This festival starts today from Panchami and will last for 10 days. For ten days, the women of Mithilanchal wish for the longevity of their brothers and play Sama Chakewa.

On this day, in the morning, the sisters sing songs in groups and play sama chakewa and pray for a long life for all the brothers in the group.

Like other festivals, this festival is considered to be a symbol of brotherly love and is considered very important for those who have brothers and sisters. During this festival, those who do not have brothers and sisters celebrate with their neighboring brothers and sisters.

According to popular belief playing Sama Chakewa will prolong the life of brothers and strengthen the relationship with sisters. This festival is becoming popular in the bordering districts of Terai such as Mahottari, Sarlahi, Siraha, Dhanusha, Saptari, Bara, and Parsa.

In Mithilanchal, the Sama Chakewa festival arrives a day before the evening prayer of the Chhath festival.

The Sama Chakeva festival regarded as the symbol of affection between brothers and sisters has begun in the Mithilanchal region today. It is a 10-day- long festival.

Sama Chakeva is observed by the sisters, daughters, and daughters-in-law in the family, wishing for longevity to their brothers. The sisters make groups and sing the songs and prepare a Sama Chakeva replica with the mud collected by their brothers.

The songs and dances are performed by the female folks at every public place including community school, Dharamshala, temple, and riverbank. The Sama Chakeva decorated by the sisters is taken to public places, keeping it in the red basket in the night. On the eleventh day of the festival, the replicas are broken and abandoned in forests or cultivated land. The replicas are broken by the brothers.

Senior culture expert Ram Bharos Kapadi informed that Sama Chakeva is a special cultural festival.
