The Supreme Court Bar Association has decided to draw the attention of the Election Commission to stop former Chief Justices or Justices from contesting for the post of the President or the Vice President of the Country.

Speaking at a press meeting held on Wednesday, Supreme Court Bar Association President Harishankar Niraula said the Election Commission will be reminded of the provisions in the constitution and the law that disqualifies former Chief Justice or Justice from standing as the President or Vice President.

Furthermore, Sections 11 and 12 of the Act relating to the Election of President and Vice President, 2074, provide that only a person who does not hold a position of benefit and who does not draw economic benefit from the government can be a candidate for President or Vice President.

Likewise, the Bar also decided to request the Constitutional Council to proceed with the process for the appointment of the Chief Justice and justices in the Supreme Court immediately.
