The Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday ordered to show cause for keeping former Chief Commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Deep Basnyat in judicial custody.
Basnyat has been remanded in custody since December 2020 after the order of the Special Court on the charge of his involvement in Lalita Niwas land scam.
A single bench of Justice Mira Khadka issued an order to furnish the reason within three days through the Office of the Attorney General.
Basnyat’s son-in-law Prajwal Adhikari had filed a petition in the SC last Friday allowing him to fight his case while on bail by demanding Basnyat’s release on the ground of his ailing health.
Basnyat has been infected with COVID-19 and is being treated in the Om Hospital at Chabahil, Kathmandu.
The writ petition stated that 69-year-old Basnyat has been suffering from chronologically related complication.
The CIAA had filed a case against 110 individuals including Basnyat on February 5, 2020, alleging them of playing role in transferring public land (Lalita Niwas) at Baluwatar, Kathmandu in individual's ownership.
