Two vehicles carrying flags for the local level election campaign have been set on fire at Mangalgadhi Chowk in Birendranagar, Surkhet.
According to Ram Prasad Gharti, Information Officer at the District Police Office and Deputy Superintendent of Police, an unidentified person set ablaze a Scorpio vehicle with a Nepali Congress flag parked at Satkar Hotel near Mangalgadhi Chowk in Birendranagar Municipality-6 at around 2 pm today. According to him, the rear tire of Scorpio was burnt due to the fire and the police took immediate control of the fire to avoid any further damage.
He said that while the police was controlling the fire, another vehicle parked in front of the three-storey hotel 700 meters west of Mangalgadhi Chowk was set on fire by an unidentified person. The fire broke out in a minibus carrying a CPN (UML) flag and a microphone.
Stating that the fire was brought under control with the help of police and fire brigade at around 3 pm, Deputy Superintendent of Police Gharti said that all the seats of the minibus were burnt and the glass was broken. Police said that they were searching for the absconding arsonist.
