Poet Sharad Pokhrel has bagged the title in a poetry competition organised by the International Nepal Literary Society (INLS).
Pokharel who is currently residing in Japan has left his 103 competitors behind to win the competition held virtually on Thursday. His creation ‘a suicide note of a bird’ has won him the title. The prize carries a purse of USD 500.
Shubhachandra Rai from Nepal finished second in the competition while Ganesh Khadka from Africa, Keshab Raj Gyawali from America, and Bandana Bhattarai from Nepal stood third. Rai received a cash prize of USD 300 while the third prize carries a purse of USD 200.
Noted poet Tulasi Diwas was the chief guest of the program. Thirty-five creations out of 103 were shortlisted for the recitation and 32 poets participated in the competition.
The event was organised on the 103rd birth anniversary of the late Rastrakavi Madhav Prasad Ghimire, according to INLS President Prakash Poudel ‘Maila’.
