MUSTANG: The construction entrepreneurs have been found compromising quality in a road construction in the district.

The ring road linking all five wards of Gharapjhong rural municipality had subpar blacktopping, which created public ire and questioned the role of oversight body as well.

The ward-5 office of the local level wrote a clarification letter to the infrastructure development office in response to the growing complaints on the substandard pitch on the Jomsom-Thini road section of the ring road.

The road was blacktopped under the ‘one constituency, one road project’. It was enforced by the infrastructure development office, Mustang under the Gandaki Province government.

The road blacktopped some years back began splitting open due to use of nonstandard materials, the locals argued. The construction company has, however, responded that it might be because of the low temperature. An information officer for the project, Ghanashyam Rokamagar, said, “The blacktopping should have been done at a time of proper temperature. Adverse temperature puts the construction at risk,” he added.
