Supreme Court issues interim order not to appoint Karki as ambassador to Bahrain

2021 Jun 27, 18:16, Kathmandu
The Supreme Court has refused to issue an interim order on a writ petition filed regarding the number of ministers in Sudurpaschim Province.

The Supreme Court has issued an interim order asking the government not to implement the proposal to appoint Yubaraj Karki as the ambassador to Bahrain.

The apex court issued the interim order citing that the candidate had not completed his graduation which is the minimum educational qualification required to be appointed an ambassador. The interim order was issued by a joint bench of Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Prakash Kumar Dhungana.

The government had amended the Directives for Ambassadorial Appointment in such a way that from now onwards the government can appoint even those who are not graduates as the country’s ambassador to a foreign country if they have earlier held a ministerial position.

Karki had been appointed the minister of General Administration when Jhalanath Khanal was the prime minister of the country. Based on that, the government had recommended Karki’s name for appointment as ambassador to Bahrain on May 8.
A writ petition had been filed by advocate Deepak Bikram Karki against the proposal to appoint Yubaraj Karki as the ambassador of Bahrain as he did not fulfill the minimum educational requirement.
